Groups & Actions
In this epic of perpetual and preemptive wars , the importance of looking back at the history of struggle by peace activists for example and guidance, and the recognition of the activism that exists today is more important than ever. As our society puts more importance on securitization, we lose our democratic institutions in the name of so called stability.
This section of the NNOMY website demonstrates those demilitarization and peace groups, and the activists that comprise them, as well as the campaigns and creative ways community activists struggle to raise public awareness about how our schools and youth have been militarized and to seek solutions to confront this trend. Defense and intelligence programs of the government and the private sector, working in a collaboration of self perpetuation, have created a crisis of cultural militarization for our country.
Programs like the expanding Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in our schools that force youth with limited opportunities into an indoctrination of military ethos are being challenged by activists including opposing school based shooting ranges, Pentagon data-mining of students, military recruitment, and militarized science, technology, engineering, and math (DoD STEM) programs entering into our public schools and now violent league based computer gaming used for recruitment purposes.
Activists are also challenging the human rights violations inherent in government programs like selective service and mandatory ASVAB testing and JAMRS data-mining that violates student and parental privacy rights.
What will be needed in the next years will be the emergence of a new generation of activists to continue these struggles and expand on the strategies to confront the escalating militarization of the public commons by a rapacious military, educational, intelligence complex. This activist emergence must have a presence and support within the concerned public if we are going to preserve any hope of forming a sustainable world both environmentally responsible and respectful of basic human rights.
The time is now to come forward to act for peace and justice.
