Why does NNOMY matter?
The National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth (NNOMY) is a national networking body that brings together national, regional and local peace organizations to oppose the growing intrusion of the military in young people's lives. The National Network Opposing the Militarization of Youth (NNOMY) is integral in bringing counter-recruitment and demilitarization groups together to help the nation understand that providing youth with peaceful and viable alternatives to achieve success in life is an important sign of a civilized and democratic society.
These are times when the Pentagon presence in our schools is expanding. The need for a renewed and active counter military recruitment movement is needed more than ever. Those of us who are opposing war must help shape the tone of anti-war and peace conversations to be more inclusive of the counter-recruitment analysis. The Department of Defense, in coordination with private sector companies, are profiting by normalizing wars and conflicts at the expense of the mental and physical health of our future citizens.
NNOMY endeavors to:
- Promote communication and sharing of organizing skills and resources;
- stimulate collaboration between network members on projects that would advance our collective goals;
- facilitate nationally coordinated actions and campaigns;
- strengthen youth-led efforts on campuses and in communities; and
- educate the broader activist community and general public on the need to become involved in these efforts.
Pleace join us by informing your group or organization about the opportunities for proactive peace activism and support promoted by NNOMY and how there are many strategies and levels of involvement to contribute to turning back the escalation of Pentagon programs increasing the militarization of our young people in our public schools.
