The Pentagon Wants Your High Schoolers

JROTC cadets compete in All-Service National Air Rifle competition | Article | The United States Army4/04/2025 / Scott Harding & Seth Kershner / Jacobin
- For the past three years, the US military has suffered through its worst recruiting crisis since the end of the draft in 1973. The Army Reserve has not met its annual quota of new recruits for nearly ten years. In fiscal year 2023, the Navy and Air Force failed to meet their recruiting goals — the first time this happened in twenty-four years for the Air Force, despite being traditionally viewed as the most desirable branch of service. And since 2013, male enlistments in the Navy have dropped more than one-third. With a shared sense of alarm, current and former military officials, members of Congress, think tanks, and others warn that these personnel shortages undermine US military readiness and its ability to fight future wars across the globe.

Know Your Draft Board

2024 Update from Resistance News #20, 1 March 1986 / Edward Hasbrouck /  Resisters Info - With almost 2,000 local draft boards with almost 6,000 members now set up across the country, there’s a good chance that one is near you.

List of All Draft Board Members in the U.S.

In the event of a draft, members of draft boards would function as, in effect, administrative law judges, making both factual and legal determinations with potentially life-or-death consequences in response to draftees’ claims for classification (including classification as conscientious objectors), exemption (including on medical and other grounds), or deferment.

The application form (SSS Form 404) gives some clues as to who is recruited or volunteers for these positions.
